Shawl Weaving Artisan - Wet Processing
Method of application of natural dyeing
Objectives : At the end of this exercise you shall be able to
• dyeing of a fabric with natural dyeing method.
Requirements
Tools/equipment’s/Instruments
• Gas stove - 1 No. • Glass /metal stirring rods - 1 No.
• Stainless steel beaker - 1 No. • Rubber Gloves.(disposable) - 1 Set.
• Onion skins for yellow or orange hues - as reqd. Materials
• Turmeric for vibrant yellow - as reqd. • Fabric: Natural fibers like cotton, linen - as reqd.
• Black beans for blue or gray tones - as reqd.
• Alum. (potassium aluminum sulfate) - as reqd.
PROCEDURE
Prepare the fabric Dye the fabric
1 Wash the fabric thoroughly to remove any impurities. 1 Place the mordant fabric into the prepared dye bath.
Create the dye bath 2 Simmer gently, stirring occasionally, until the desired
color intensity.
